Keswick, Cumbria

The development at Derwent Close is situated in the heart of Keswick, a small market town located toward the North edge of the Lake District National Park. The development provides a total of 26 units for affordable housing to local residents.

Whilst the site is immediately adjacent to the perimeter of the Keswick Town Centre Conservation Area, the design required respect and acknowledgement of the existing local vernacular in its approach to the overall design. The resulting solution developed in consultation with the local planning authority provides a high density development, and whilst contemporary, fully representing something modern rather than old in appearance, was deemed perfectly appropriate for its site and context.
