Carlisle, Cumbria

Located on a disused railway yard, Currock Yard is a residential development of terraced and semi-detached properties with a contemporary twist. The scheme extends from the existing Victorian railway terrace housing into an elongated site flanked by existing railway lines and meets the green edge of the city and River Caldew beyond. The design evolves the existing terraced house into a contemporary open plan family home to meet the needs and desires of families in Carlisle today, while the palette of materials chosen reflects the adjacent sites but with a modern application. The integration of detailed external works and careful landscaping provides a variety of public, private and semi-private spaces with a green corridor of biodiverse planting to extend into the landscape beyond the site.
