Bluebell House is a family home with a difference. Designed and constructed for an Ecologist, the house reflects the ethical beliefs of the owner to tread lightly on the earth and create a sustainable family home which utilised natural materials and a minimal carbon footprint. The house is a breathable construction of timber frame with wood fibre insulation, lime plaster, lime render and natural stone. Most materials were locally sources and manufactured by local companies to minimise the carbon footprint. On site there is a large rainwater harvesting tank, photovoltaic array, and commercial biomass boiler, which supply both the house and the adjoining business premises. Waste wood is in plentiful supply from the adjoining business and is dried and chipped on site to supply the boiler. The site includes an orchard, vegetable gardens, beehives, wildflower meadow and ponds to enhance natural biodiversity of the site which now home to a dazzling array of flora and fauna.
