The refurbishment of Rose Case, the Grade I Listed former residence of the Bishops of Carlisle, represents a significant milestone in the development of an already historically significant building.  The project was undertaken with care and sensitivity throughout, with great respect being given to the “grain” of the original building fabric – whilst acknowledging that changes have needed to be made to bring the building up to 21st century standards, any necessary interventions are modest in scale and do not interrupt the evolving narrative of the castle’s history.

The original design proposals were prepared by Haysom Ward Miller Architects, and when they stepped away from the project, Architects Plus were tasked with co-ordinating the delivery of the construction contract as well as providing additional design and specification guidance including an entirely new porch structure over the main entrance to the building.

Overall, the project has been a truly collaborative process which has utilised the skills of local and specialist contractors, specialist designers and a truly devoted and motivated client to lovingly retore this nationally significant, historic building.
