Working with Mitie Integrated Services Ltd and the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust at The Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, Architects Plus are providing architectural design services associated with the ongoing operational improvements identified.  This has included a varierty of upgrades and refurbishment works to patient wards, medical staff rest areas, and external areas of the site.

Most recently, the practice has provided architectural services to refurbish and extend the Paediatric Accident and Emergency Ward.  This required completion of a new extension to provide 3 new Treatment Rooms, a Triage Room, a dedicated waiting room and improved doctors workstation areas. The contract works were extended to the main A&E department with further design and construction information produced provide additional Treatment Rooms, dedicated medical stores, utility rooms alongside alterations and improvements to the existing ventilation system.

The works were delivered to an extremely tight timescale and within limited confines to ensure adajcent areas remained operational.  A phasing strategy was developed to closely control materials and contractor access whilst ensure the everyday operations of the hospital were not significantly disrupted.

“On behalf of the paediatric nursing team and myself I would like to say a big thank you to you all for all your hard work in then the design and building of the new department….It’s fantastic and will make such a difference to the care we will be able to the children and young people who visit our department.”
