Derwent Close, Keswick
The development at Derwent Close is situated in the heart of Keswick, a small market town located towards the Northern edge of the Lake District National Park. Whilst the site is not within the curtilage of the Keswick Town Centre Conservation Area it is immediately adjacent to its boundary and the requirement for the design proposals to respond to and respect this characteristic, have been a major influencing factor.
Fundamental to the success of the project was how to maximise the potential of a prominent and sensitive town centre location by providing a high density development that was both appropriate to its context yet thoroughly modern in its design and approach to meeting the demand for affordable housing for the local residents.
A total of 26 units are provided, comprising 1 No. one bed unit, 18 No. 2 bedroom/3 person flats and 7 No. 2 bedroom/4 person flats. Ground floor units benefit from a designated outdoor terrace that can be accessed directly from the living area of the unit. First and second floor units have the benefit of an external balcony which can also be accessed directly off the living area and provide private outdoor space along with access to the spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
