Sustainability
Architects Plus acknowledges that the product of their designs usually exists for 60 to 120 years if not longer and so the decisions made during the design process will influence future energy use and carbon emissions for a long time to come. They recognise that they can play a pivotal role in disseminating new ideas regarding sustainability as well as learn from others experience. The practice is committed to raising clients’ awareness of sustainability and environmental protection and to helping the members of the design team to develop a shared vision of environmental aspirations.
Architects Plus acknowledges that good environmental design does not always mean expensive technology, the most appropriate solutions are typically high quality, low tech and super energy efficient that will remain so throughout the duration of their lifetimes with a minimum of maintenance and repair. A general policy of “insulate right, build tight” is often the most sustainable approach utilising high levels of insulation combined with an air-tight building envelope.
We recognise that our practice must strive to achieve high standards in sustainability both in our work practices as well as in our designs. We have developed an Environmental Policy which reflects our beliefs and aims to provide a sustainable approach to our practice and our designs. Architects Plus has undertaken a commitment to develop an Environmental Management System (EMS).
Architects Plus recently achieved the Cumbria Business Environmental Network Bronze Award and was nominated for an excellence award for our outstanding commitment to sustainability. We are now working toward our silver award which we hope to achieve during 2011. The company has also achieved membership of the Green Register of Construction Professionals.
